When to Capture Portraits of Your Parents

Photographing Parents

When it comes to hiring a professional photographer, many people invest in their newborn baby, especially in the first 48 hours, followed by senior high school portrait, weddings and family sessions. Church or commercial studio sessions have been popular formats for family sessions for years. Now in the digital age, more lifestyle sessions  are becoming the preferred choice. If lifestyle family sessions are more you style, have you thought about incorporating your parents and grandparents?

It seems in multi-generational events such as weddings or family reunions, the parent portrait becomes secondary, but this might be the only time or last time you have a good picture of your mom or dad.  And from what I have observed, photographers capture them more as an after thought.

Here are some key reasons to book a portrait of your parents and grandparents:

  • It has been decades since their last portrait.
  • You want to capture the grandchildren and grandparents together.
  • You don’t want to wait until their sick to get a picture.
  • You want to remember them in their home environment.
  • It is a good memento for all the family.
  • It strengthens the family legacy in pictures.

Individual Sessions

If you are looking for a gift idea, many seniors have told me they don’t need more things, but a nice portrait, will do.

A HOME SESSION: An home environmental portrait.
